Pro-NPP group numbering about 100 goes ahead with their demonstration to get Musa Superior Out of office

The Coalition of polling station and electoral executives of Tamale central and Tamale south on Wednesday morning went ahead to stage their planned demonstration to reecho a the campaign to get Tamale’s mayor, Iddrisu Musa Superior out of office.

The group being pro-NPP ignored the vice president’s Town Hall meeting to stage on the demonstration in the Tamale metropolis with the intention to oust Musah Superior whom they had accused of neglecting party executives and also awarding contract to their opponents.

Among others they said the actions of the mayor had led to a total breakdown of ties between the government and the party most especially the grassroots.

Carrying placards and banners with inscriptions; “Superior must Go”, “Mr President save Tamale metropolis,” “He must Go,” among others, the group numbering about 100 including women, marched through some principal street of Tamale.

The convener of the group, Osman Abdul Mumin, addressing the media after the demonstration warned that they as polling station executives will not hesitate to stand aloof and watch the party suffer in the 2020 general election, if the president failed to heed to the demands to remove Musah Superior from office.

PETITION FOR THE REMOVAL OF THE TAMALE METROPOLITAN CHIEF EXECUTIVE

Good Day to the people from the Media, constituency executives, council of Elders, to our Regional Executives as well as the entire Grassroots of the NPP in the Tamale Metropolis who are present here this Morning. Coalition of polling Station Executives and Electoral Area Coordinators welcome you to this important Event concerning the Call for the removal of the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive Musah Superior.

The Tamale Metropolis is the biggest Assembly in the northern part of the country and one of the biggest in the country. It is the heart beat of the region and perhaps the whole of the north. Any activity negative or positive happening in the Metropolis has a rippling effect on the other parts of the region. It is against this background that we the Coalition of Electoral Polling Station Officers will not sit unconcern for the Metropolis to be ran into a halt by the actions or inactions of the MCE and therefore by this petition calling for the immediate dismissal of the mayor for the following;

The government of the NPP came to power in the 2016 elections through the efforts of the executives and members of the party. These people sacrificed a lot in making this a reality. Young men and women including executives of the party had sleepless night in making this come true. Mr. President, we all know for the betterment of the party and the country at large, party executives and the government appointees should work in harmony and in unison but that is absolutely not the case in the Tamale Metropolis, the MCE and most party executives are always at loggerheads, he is always fighting one executive or the other almost at every point in time. We are not surprise some executives earlier called for his sacking. This development is fast destroying the image of the party and the government, his immediate dismissal will go a long way in halting this decay.

Another reason why we think he should be fired is a reason linked to the above. He takes decisions without consulting the regional and constituency executives which is always causing drift between them. He says publicly he is the president’s “guy” and so does whatever he wishes. A typical example is the imposition of a 10% levy, for want of a better word on the caterers of the school feeding programme. How can such an exercise be carried out without consulting party executive? Obviously, the mayor thinks his level of thinking is above that of the executives and will not consult them. The imposition itself is detrimental to the growth of the party and refusal to consult party executive has definitely added Salt to injury. Mr. President, we think this a lone is grounded enough for his removal.

The issue of employment has always been complex and difficult with so many young Ghanaians unemployed, unfortunately. The Nana Addo and the NPP administration in this regard therefore decided to bring in very good policies with the aim of addressing the unemployment canker. As part of the measure the youth in forestry has been established and thousands of Ghanaian youth have been employed, two hundred (200) of the forestry appointment were given to the mayor to be given to the Tamale South and Central constituencies, unfortunately only twenty were given to each constituency.

Again, as part of measures to cushion the lives of hardworking polling station executives, gas cylinders were given to be distributed to these hardworkingpatriots but the mayor redirected these cylinders to a different district because of his selfish political gains. The cylinders never got to its intended destination.We all know that eight years of gross incompetence and mismanagement of the economy by the NDC still has its effects on Ghanaians even though president Nana Addo and Dr. Bawumia have been effective in making it better. The foundation is being laid and with time, things will improve drastically as the signs are clear to everyone. The mayor rents stores at very high prices to our market women without taking into consideration the current economic hardship we inherited from the NDC. The cost of a store is fourteen thousand Ghana cedis (GH¢14,000) for only two years. Are those stores meant for selling gold?

The mayor has also been selling contracts to opponents of the NPP, many contracts in the Tamale Metropolis are done by a very prominent opposition member. During the occasion of the independence celebration, painting and other minor projects were given to this man, most of those artisans doing the work were people from that party. This annoyed a lot of our members especially those with similar skills and some of them have sworn never to get engage in any of our political activities.

Discipline has been noted to be part of the NPP and this was clearly demonstrated by our vice president, the late AlhajiAliuMahama, may his soul rest in peace, when he did everything to reduce this problem, we are therefore not against discipline in anyway, as a matter of fact, some of us were part of the team that went round to educate  market women and men for the need to observe discipline and also abide by the laws of the assembly and the nation. It is unfortunate to say the way the mayor is handling this particular issue is to say the least, frightening. Market women are beaten, their goods destroyed and speaks “shit” to them. There is always a middle ground but the mayor doesn’t think so. Some of these women curse the mayor and the party.

Mr. President, your opponents have done everything in their powers to tag you an arrogant person but anytime this is done, you simply prove them wrong by showing your humility, simplicity, calmness and your down to earthiness. Our mayor has shown the exact opposite. Anytime he is called an arrogant person, he shows more arrogance and pride. Your appointees should emulate yourexample and not exhibit character that is not in tandem with the position they hold. We cannot have an island of arrogance, pride and incompetence surrounded by an ocean of humanity, simplicity and competence. The mayor is a misfit and his dismissal should be of immediate concern.         Thank You!
