Power outages will be over in 5 days – Energy Minister

The Energy Minister John Peter Amewu has assured that the power outages being experienced in parts of the country will be over in five days.

Some Ghanaians have expressed anger over the seeming sudden return of power outages popularly known as ‘dumsor’ following the take over of ECG by PDS.

But the Energy Minister during a tour of some substations in Accra on Thursday assured that the situation is under control.

“Definitely because of the construction work (Pokuase interchange) that is ongoing, there is the need for them to halt the transmission of power for this period and so these some of the problems but my expectation thinking is that it is going to be completed within five days. But we have put in measures to minimize the impact,” he told the media.

Addressing the media at the Pokuase substation, CEO of GRIDco, Jonathan Amoako Baah said another challenge which caused the blackout in most parts of the country was as a result of the construction of the Pokuase interchange.

According to him, they had to introduce new installations to ensure the cables are safe and can allow free flow of traffic. He further assured that their project will be completed in 5 days to bring relief to Ghanaians.

Mr GRIDCo CEO assured that there is enough power to be supplied to the country

“Let me assure Ghanaians that dumsor is not back, we have enough power to supply. After the construction works everything will return to the reliability of supply that we have come to know over the last months”.
