Police in Tamale make two separate arrests on the Chereponi-Saboba conflict and drug peddlers in Lamashegu

Police in the Northern region have arrested 11 persons in connection with the recent tribal violence at Chereponi and Saboba, both in the newly created North-East region.

Eight out of the 11 persons are in prison custody assisting with Police investigations whiles two including an 82 year old man are granted bail.

One of the suspects, who is a missionary according to Police intelligence was hired from neighboring Togo to aid in the violence.

Northern regional Police Public Relations Officer DSP YussifTanko told Diamond News, the alleged missionary has confessed to the crime and has since mentioned names of his accomplices.

DSP YussifTanko however indicated that, the combined term of Police and military will continue patrols and surveillance across the Chereponi and Saboba enclave to ensure total peace is restored.

It will be recalled that, conflict broke out among some Konkambas and Chekosis within Chereponi and Saboba area earlier this month.

Hundreds of people especially women and children have since been displaced since the outbreak of the latest conflict between the Konkombas and Chekosis.

Still in crime, The Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Ghana Police Service in Tamale have arrested nine persons suspected to be drug peddlers and users in the Tamale Metropolis.

The nine persons including a 24 year old woman were arrested in a Police swoop on drug peddlers and users at Lamashegu, a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis.

According to the Northern regional Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Mohammed YussifTanko who revealed the arrest to Diamond News said large quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were seized from the suspects during their arrest.

He said the Police will increase the fight against illegal use of drugs within the Metropolis which has a direct relation with crime rate in the Metropolis.

DSP YussifTanko said the Police will continue with the swoops across all parts of the region to ensure criminal activities are up-rooted.

The suspects he said will be charged with possession of hard drugs without authorization and will be arranged before court for prosecution.
