Nyohini Children’s Home Manageress caught stealing food items meant for orphans

The Central Manageress of the Nyohini Children’s Home Mrs Mawulorm Afelete has been arrested for allegedly stealing large quantities of donated food items meant for the orphanage.

Madam Mawulorm Afelete was caught on Thursday Morning 27th August 2020 transporting a Motor king load of food items.

The tricycle was monitored by the youth in the area as it left the premises of the facility with loaded food items. The youth after monitoring subsequently intercepted the tricycle travelling towards VVIP Station near point 7 of the Tamale Metropolis.

The items stolen included three bags of maize, two bags of rice, and several gallons of frytol cooking oil, packs of detergents and several tins of Milo,  cartons  of Milk among others were found in the tricycle.

Madam Mawulorm Afelete reportedly admitted to stealing the food items and said she was sending them to her sister’s funeral.

Assemblyman of the Nyohini South Electoral Area, Yakubu Hamza, who confirmed her arrest to Diamond News, said her arrest followed a combined monitoring effort by the youth in the area who had been complaining about her criminal activities and her negative attitude towards the children in the facility.

He said the youth in the area formed a vigilante group after numerous reports about her continued criminal activities in the facility, adding “we had information about the Manageress dealings but we wanted evidences to back ourselves”, he stated.

Yakubu Hamza explaining to Diamond News said the case has since been reported to the Northern Regional Police Command and the Regional Social Welfare Directorate for further investigation.
