Sports Betting is fast increasing among the youthful population particularly in the Tamale metropolis where many of the young ones who engage in these activities hope to make some monies through their predictions.
Most of the youth who engage in sports betting say they are into the activity, not only due to unemployment, but also to while away time.
Some of the youth that are engaged in betting argued that, betting as a game; gives them opportunities to make money and this is better than resorting to criminal activities like stealing from others.
Diamond News interacted with some youth who are into sport betting in the Tamale metropolis who shared their experiences. According to them, there are dangers involved like losing monies or even when arguments turn violent in the betting halls where they could endanger the safety of many others.
However, speaking to a branch manager of my bet, one of the betting companies in the central business district, Ms Rukaya, said they operate under strict rules that disallow persons below the age of 18 and students from coming in to bet.
She said alcohol consumption and smoking are not allowed at the betting centres since there is maximum security to check deviant behaviors.
Meanwhile the youth, are calling on the government to address the high unemployment situation in the country so that they can become financially sound to support their families.
