NPP parliamentary candidate donates to Tolon District Health Centre

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) parliamentary candidate for Tolon Constituency, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu has donated 60 pieces of Anti-Snake Serum, two Infrared Thermometer guns and six ceiling fans worth GHC 30,000 to the Tolon District Health Centre.

This is to enable the health Centre tackle increases in snakebite cases as the rainy season peaks.

The NPP PC, presenting the items to the Tolon District Chief Executive, Hajia Barikisu Yakubu, said the donation was in fulfillment of a pledge he made when he visited the facility some months ago.

According to him the support became necessary because of non-availability of the anti-venom in the facility which is leading to loss of lives in the area.

Alhaji Habib addressing the media indicated that he remained committed to the health and wellbeing of the constituents and will continue to support the health Centre when elected as MP of Tolon. He also pledged that he will continue to support the Health Centre monthly with 50 pieces of anti-venom till December 2020 when farming activities ends in the area.

“One of the key problems we have in this constituency is snake bite because majority of the residents of this area are farmers and most of these snake bites happen to them at their farms, and so I taught it wise to support the health Centre to enable them attend to patients with those cases for free. This is not a political line, it is going to benefit every member in this constituency, let save lives first, he stated

“I will be doing same 50 pieces of anti-venom every month until December when farming activities ends and every year if I am elected as MP for Tolon it is something I will continue doing because we have lost several lives in this constituency because of unavailability of anti-venom in the facility to attend to patients, he assured.

The District Chief Executive Hajia Barikisu Yakubu, who received the items and subsequently presented them to the district health director and thanked Alhaji Habib Iddrisu for the support, saying the items will go a long way to improve health care delivery in the District.

On her part, the District Health Director of Tolon, Madam Joana Kwaku, in expressing appreciation to the NPP PC said the donation of the Anti-Snake venom particularly, was very timely since the district had already recorded 30 cases of snakebites.

According to her, it has always been very difficult if not impossible for victims of snakebites from vulnerable farming communities to afford the expensive anti- snake venom.
