The Northern regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party Mohammed Baantima Samba has said his party executives are poised to ensuring a 100% yes votes in the upcoming referendum in December.
To this end, he tasked party faithful to double their efforts by supporting the campaign for the yes vote on December 17, 2019 that would allow Metropolitan, Municipal and District chief executive to be elected on partisan basis.
He said the YES vote will ensure grassroots party people are rewarded for their loyalty to the party and also for MMDCEs to be held accountable by the people when they are voted for.
If all the parliamentary processes goes well, the Electoral Commission, EC is to hold a referendum on December 17 to amend article 55(3) of the constitution that prohibits political parties from participating in local level elections.
Chairman Samba in an interview with Diamond News on the sidelines of a regional executive committee meeting in Tamale urged MMDCEs and party executives to work hard in their respective jurisdictions to help secure a second term for the NPP.
The regional executive committee meeting brought together Members of Parliament, Constituency executives, MMDCEs, Parliamentary candidates, members of the council of elders, Patrons and regional executives to strategize ahead of the referendum and the 2020 general elections.
The NPP regional Chairman also urged party elective and MMDCEs to work in unity and maintain a cordial relationship with locals to enhance the fortunes of the party.
