Northern Regional Chief Iman rallies Islamic clergies in the region to seek Divine intervention against COVID during Friday’s congregational prayers

The Northern Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Abdul Salam Ahmed, has directed all Imams leading Friday’s congregational prayers in the Region to organize Quranic recitations and prayers for Allah’s intervention in dealing with the deadly COVID – 19 pandemic.  

According to him, the spread of the corona virus and the death rate in the recent weeks in the Region is worrying; hence it is important for Muslim scholars to organize such exercise to plead with Allah to intervene.

The Northern Region has been hit by covid-19 in its second wave and that has resulted in a two weeks closure of the Savelugu Hospital after 60 staffs in the facility tested positive for COVID-19 while results of samples of a lot more staff are yet to be released.

 Also it has emerged that there has been an increasing number of deaths in the Region in recent times and residents are attributing such alarming numbers to the covid-19 pandemic.

The chief Imam in a press statement copied to Diamond News indicated that all Imams within the Region, should organize Quranic recitations within their localities on Friday 26th February, 2021 for Allah to intervene in the spread and handling of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The statement added that; “the Imams should form clusters (a maximum of Ten (10) for the recitals. The prayers and sacrifices have been the norms and tradition of Muslims”.

Alhaji Abdul Salam Ahmed also called on Imams within the Tamale Metropolis to also pray for the entire region and the country at large.

He however encouraged residents within the region to observe the health guidelines and other covid-19 protocols in order to stay safe.
