Nine-member Election Security Task Force for the Tamale Metropolis, inaugurated

A nine member Election Security Task Force for the Tamale Metropolitan area has been inaugurated ahead of the upcoming District Level elections and referendum on December 17.

 The task force, under the chairmanship of the metropolitan police commander Superintendent iddrisu Tanko Issifu comprises; the Military, Police, Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), the Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Customs Division, the Electoral Commission and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).

 The mandate of the Taskforce is to ensure overall security during and after the elections. The taskforce is also expected to conduct periodic security surveillance and gather intelligence in a bid to identify, prevent and deal with any potential threat to the conduct of the elections in the metropolis.

Their function also include, securing the safe transportation and storage of ballot materials at police stations, ensuring peace at polling stations on election day, seeing to the smooth settlement of complaints, ensuring the arrest and prosecution of election offenders as well as identifying trouble prone areas in the metropolis.

Public relations officer of TMA, Musah Issah Salifu, later spoke to Diamond News on the significance of having such key actors in place ahead of the upcoming District level elections and referendum on December 17.
