Government is working towards the inclusion of
cancer treatments on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS),
Minister for Health, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has said.
The move, he explained, is to make available and accessible cancer
treatment services for Ghanaians, particularly breast cancer victims.
Reports indicate that most breast cancer patients die due to lack of funds to go through treatment and purchase drugs.
But, with the introduction, the Health Minister on Adom FM’s morning
show, Dwaso Nsem, Friday said unfortunate deaths would be a thing of the
past.
He said a foreign firm, which produces cancer drugs, has agreed to supply the Health Ministry at a subsidised cost.
“I can assure you that from June cancer treatment will be covered by the NHIS card to support patients,” he said.Comments:
