The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Savanna Region is demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the North East Gonja district, Abdulla Iddi and 16 others for their roles in the illegal registration of some 12 persons at Vittin some few days ago.
The NDC alleged that the DCE, who is also the Parliamentary candidate of the NPP for the Salaga North constituency is the brain behind the act which would have enhanced his electoral fortunes.
It will be recalled that, on July 17th, Diamond News reported the arrest of two EC officials stationed at Kpanshegu Registration cluster in the North East Gonja district, who were caught registering some persons illegally in a private residence at Vittin in the Tamale South constituency.
The two EC officials claimed they had come to Tamale with the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kit to charge its battery the previous day after the battery had run down.
Savanna Regional Secretary of the NDC, Salisu Be-awuribe addressing a press conference at Kpalbe demanded an immediate joint audit of all the Polling Stations the said Registration Team went around to register since June 30th to the 17th of July 2020.
The NDC also claimed Security personnel in the Savannah Region have become puppets not only of appointees of the ruling government, but under the direction and control of NPP party executives. The NDC Regional Secretary, Salisu Be-awribe therefore demanded professionalism from them.
The Savanna Regional NDC also warned executives and Parliamentary candidates of the NPP in the region to abort any idea of busing people from different constituencies into the region to register.
