NDC FIRST VICE CHAIRMAN DEFECT TO NPP

Three key persons including a former first vice chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Walewale Constituency have defected to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Sumani Mutawakilu who is the former first vice chairman of NDC in the Walewale constituency together with Majeed Mahamudu, and Mubeenu Halidu a known diehard PNC supporter from Janga electoral area made the disclosure to the North East Regional executives of NPP led by Sule Sambian, the regional secretary of NPP at Walewale.

Sumani Mutawakilu, who acted as the spokesperson for the purported defectors, told Diamond News that the NDC had neglected party members and refused to listen to advice from the constituents. Their decision to defect to the NPP, he added was informed by the lack of development in the area after supporting the NDC for many years.

The former constituency vice chair of the NDC said under the Nana Addo led Government; young people in the Walewale constituency are being given opportunities under the various social intervention programmes that had brought employment and relief to people in all corners of the country.

We took the decision to defect to the “other side of the political divide, because of our brother; the vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and how his party is transforming our constituency within the shortest period in power.”

Welcoming the defectors, the North East Regional secretary of NPP, stated that their defection was a testimony of the sterling job executed by President Nana Akuffo Addo. According to Sambian, the party would exceed its campaign promises made to the people.

He thereby urged them to feel at home since the NPP does not discriminate, but would treat them as though they were members of the party at its birth.
