NCCE marks citizenship week celebration in Nanumba North

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Nanumba North Municipality has marked this year’s Citizenship Week Celebration in 40 schools in the area sensitizing pupils to join the campaign on tax compliance.

The NCCE by the sensitisation expect the pupils to educate their parents in that regard.

Nanumba North Municipal Director of NCCE, John Tadare, who was part of the NCCE team that visited the schools for the celebration, educated the pupils to be patriotic to enable them play critical roles in the development of the country as future leaders.

The Citizenship Week Celebration is an annual event held by the NCCE to educate the youth on their roles in nation building.

This year’s week-long celebration was on the theme: “Our Nation, Our Heritage: Consolidating Ghana’s Democratic Gains,” with emphasis on transparency and accountability.

The Nanumba North Municipal office of NCCE used the occasion to set the agenda for pupils to join the campaign on tax compliance and also to inculcate in them the culture of paying tax as they grew to become responsible adults.

Mr Tadare said taxes helped to develop the country emphasizing that “Tax money helps government to create jobs and also provide basic social amenities such as electricity, health facilities, potable water, roads, schools, libraries amongst others” enjoining pupils to encourage their parents to pay and file their tax returns.

He also spoke about environmental governance emphasizing the need for all to keep their surroundings clean and avoid bad practices such as illegal mining, sand minning, pollution of water bodies amongst others.
