The minority leader and Member of Parliament for the Tamale south constituency, Haruna Iddrisu has advised the Nana Addo administration, not to rush in implementing the nation builder’s corps programme.
Haruna Iddrisu noted that even though the minority in parliament will welcome any initiative towards addressing unemployment in the country, a careful implementation could enhance it sustainability in the coming years.
Minister of finance, Ken Ofori Attah in presenting the 2018 budget statement to parliament, announced government’s agenda towards job creation, particularly addressing the soaring unemployment numbers among university graduates, will be boosted with the introduction of “Nation Builders Corp,” a new initiative that is expected to see the absorption of 100,000 university graduates, in 2018.
The graduates to be hired under the programme will be posted to various districts across the country. On average, under this programme, every district should be able to provide jobs for 462 graduates.
But the Minority leader, at the inauguration of the old student association of the Dabokpa technical old Students Association in Tamale South, sarcastically said that the programme was a continuation of national service, and that a hasty roll out could cost the country.
Haruna Iddrisu also pushed for a unified pension scheme for retired prison officers, since according to him the current pension plan, was quite appalling and unfavorable.
