Residents of Nachimbiya a farming community in the Savanna Region are up in arms against their Member of Parliament, Alhassan Mumuni whom they accuse of failing to honor his electoral promises.
According to the community, the MP promise to provide them with social amenities, but he has abandoned them just after securing their votes in last general elections. They also claimed the MP is only good at attending funerals in the constituency.
Speaking to Diamond News some of the frustrated residents of Nachimbiya, complained that they lack amenities such as potable water, healthcare, educational facilities and road project.
A visit to the community recently by Diamond News revealed that the residents, to a large extent, depended on water from a dugout that dries up during the dry season.
Some of the concerned residents in the community also sharing their frustration said the failure of the East Gonja Municipal authorities to connect the community in to the national grid is having a negative effect in the community, especially the women who have to travel miles to the grinding mill.
Expressing their concern to Diamond News, the resident of Nachimbiya, threatened that they will resist any Politician who visits their community to campaign, should their concerned remain unresolved.
‘’ These
challenges have lived with us for a very long time, but nothing has been done
about them, notwithstanding the numerous appeals by the people. We have made it
known to our assemblyman and our MP to channel our concerns to the government,
but it appears there is no help in sight.’’ one resident narrated
‘’The youth in this community are fed up with the dishonesty of our politicians. We have an MP who seems not to care about our welfare and we will also teach him a lesson when time comes. Since 1992 none of our DCEs has ever visited this community. It is only this year the MCE paid us a visit and promised to build a school block for us. It has been almost two months, but we haven’t heard from him again,’’ another resident added.
Meanwhile Diamond News’s attempt to get the MCE and MP for the area all proved futile.
