N/R: Ya –Na Suspends performance of funerals and other public gathering in Dagbon

The over lord of Dagbon Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II has suspended all public gathering, include Friday congregational prayers and funeral performance in Dagbon traditional area.

A statement signed by the secretary of the Gbewaa Palace Abdul Rahaman Mohammed, indicated that the said suspension is in line with government’s ban on all social gatherings including funerals, festivals, all religious activities, conferences and all other events that call for a mass gathering of people to prevent the spread of covid-19 in the country

So far Ghana has recorded seven cases of coronavirus disease in the country

The statement read, “His Majesty in consultation with the council of elders and Chiefs Imams has with immediate effect ban all public gathering, including Friday’s prayers and  funeral performance in Dagbon traditional area.

“The experience of South Korea where a religious congregational activity was key factor in the Asian country’s loss of control of the COVID-19 infection rates should be instructive to us. This is not the time to invoke Constitutional rights as we are not in normal times.

The king of Dagbon He has however commended the president for demonstrating leadership during these trying times of a global pandemic.

His Royal Majesty Ndan Ya Na Abukari II King of Dagbon Kingdom has noted with keen interest the response of the Government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to control the spread of COVID -19 Coronavirus infection. The prompt response, the proactive measures, and the surveillance systems put in place are all aimed at controlling infection rates. The evidence so far strongly suggests that the measures the Government has put in place are effectively contributing towards to the health and protection of the country.

On behalf of the Chiefs and People of Dagbon, Ndan-Ya-Na wishes to commend the President for demonstrating leadership during these trying times of a global pandemic. The strengthening of health communication and information systems and the contribution of the nation’s media, led by a strong political will, have all helped to realize the national objective of and informed population.

Ndan-Ya- Na wants to use this occasion to appeal to all in the Northern Region and in Ghana as a whole to support the national process of controlling the COVID-19 infection rate. The responsibility of ensuring a controlled COVID-19 infection rate is the duty of all Ghanaians and people living in the country. While Social Media has lots of information, Ghanaians should seek information on COVID-19 from authorized and trusted sources only.
