MUKARAMA ABDULAI WINS ADIDAS GOLDEN BOOT AWARD

Ghana Black Maidens Captain and Northern Ladies striker, Mukarama Abdulai has won the Adidas Golden Boot award at the FIFA under 17 Women World Cup in Uruguay after emerging as the tournament’s top scorer with seven goals. She beat her closest rival, Spain’s Claudia Pina who scored a brace in the finals against Mexico to bring her tally too to seven goals. Mukarama has however scored the seven goals in four matches against Pina’s seven goals in six matches.

For her efforts Claudia Pina however beat Mukarama Abdulai to the tournament’s golden ball for the best player of the tournament. Mukarama won the adidas bronze ball for coming in third place as far as the best players of the tournament is concerned even after Ghana exited the competition in the quarters.

A statement on the FIFA official twitter handle confirmed Mukarama’s award with the message: “With seven goals and two assists, Ghana forward Mukarama Abdulai is the winner of the adidas Golden Boot award at Uruguay 2018.”

The Ghana captain opened her tournament with a hat-trick against host Uruguay in a match Ghana won 5-0. She followed that up with a goal against Finland in Ghana’s 3-1 victory in the second round of matches. Mukarama again scored a brace in Ghana’s final group game against New Zealand to bring her tally to six. Her seventh goal was a delightful header against Mexico in the quarter finals, a game Ghana drew 2-2 and lost eventually the resultant penalty shoot-out 4-2.

Spain’s Catalina Coll is the winner of the adidas Golden Glove award for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Uruguay 2018, as decided by the FIFA Technical Study Group.

And with a superb disciplinary record, Japan were the winners of the FIFA Fair Play Award for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Uruguay 2018.

Only on Friday, Mukarama Abdulai got nominated for the CAF women footballer of the year award for her exploits at the World Cup. Congratulations to Mukarama Abdulai.
