The Chief Executive Officer of McDan group of companies, Daniel McKorley has assured that his Mcdan foundation is taking steps to revamping Tomatoes production in Northern Ghana.
Dr Mckoley gave the assurance when he paid a courtesy call the northern region minister Salifu – Saeed at his office, as part of his two days tour to commission six unit class room block at Teong in the upper east region and also to cut sod for other projects in the northern region.
According to him his involvement in this part of the country is to create jobs for the youth, saying his foundation intends to undertake projects in agriculture and education in the area.
Dr Mckoley also revealed that Mcdan foundation is cultivating 5000 hectares of Tomatoes to address the annual importation of tomatoes as well helping to create jobs for the youth.
‘We are stating with five thousand hectares of tomatoes farm and also greens house to double the yield. We are going to employ between 400 and 500, women. We are in this region to move agriculture in to another level. Apart from our corporate social responsibility, we will be doing some business in the region to employ some of the youth. If we can take some few youth from the streets and engage them meaningfully; Ghana will be a better place for us’’
The CEO of McDan group of companies also mentioned that the foundation supporting government’s efforts at eliminating schools under trees by is initiating a school block in Yendi for the overlord of Dagbon Ya-Na Abukari II and the people of Dagbon.
Touching on Government policies, Dr Mckoley indicated the need for the private sector to tap into government policies by creating opportunities for the country’s youth.
In his response the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed commended Mcdan group of companies for their initiatives to creating opportunities for the youth in the region.
