MATCH DAY ONE OF DIVISION ONE LEAGUE FAIRLY SUCCESSFUL FOR NORTHERN TEAMS

There were mixed results for Northern Region based teams in match day one of this year’s division one zone one league. Steadfast FC and Real Tamale United (RTU) recorded nervy wins on Saturday and Sunday in front of their respective supporters at home.

Even though both teams took the three maximum points at stake, the manner of their wins leaves much to be desired. Steadfast had to come from behind on two occasions to snatch a late winner in added time, with a 3-2 triumph over BA United. RTU also came from behind to win 2-1 against Kintampo FC.

The other Tamale based team Tamale City FC had to start the season on the road albeit a decent performance as they came from Dormaa with a 2-2 draw against NEA Salamina.

However, the same could not be said of debutants Gbewaa FC who were hammered 3-0 by experienced Bofoakwa Tano in Sunyani.

In all of these, it emerged that Techiman City failed to report for their Division One League opener against Nkoranza Warriors on Sunday in Zone One.

It still remains unclear why this action but reports say Techiman City are waiting for the outcome of their case with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Techiman City have filed a case at CAS against the Ghana Football Association.

Other Results in Zone One are as follows:

Paga Crocodiles 1- 1 Berekum Arsenals

Unity FC 0-0 Young Apostles

Glory Stars 4-0 Wa Suntaa
Elsewhere, Accra Great Olympics opened their season with a 1-1 draw at home against Agbozume Weavers on Sunday in Zone Three of the Division One League.

The club are in court with the GFA over their dismissed petition for the use of an unqualified player by Bechem United during last season’s campaign.
