Local Government Minister distributes hand washing facilities to MMDAs in Northern Region.

The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama has distributed hand washing equipment to all Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies within the Northern Region as part of measures taken by government to combat the spread of COVID-19.

As part of the National Disinfection Exercise to combat COVID 19, Hajia Alima Mahama donated 150 set of Veronica buckets to the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and 100 set of Veronica buckets to each of the Municipal and District Assemblies in the Northern Region.

Some other items added were, dustbins, liquid Soap, Sanitizers, Tissue paper, Protective Clothing and Spraying machines.

She said, the veronica buckets will be placed at vantage points at markets within the region.

Hajia Alima indicated that, the spraying of the various markets within the Northern region will start from the Tamale central market and then would cover others after consultations with the market women.

The Local government Minister Hajia Alima Mahama also stressed on taking preventive measures seriously in this period.

She cautioned individuals against shaking hands and hugging as that could result to contracting COVID 19.

Hajia Alima also admonished the public to call off weddings and funerals at the moment as the nation strengthens measures to ensure our safety against the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

She reminded the public on the president quest for the nation to fast and pray on Wednesday.

The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Salifu Sa-eed, in his address, lamented that, “Prevention is better than cure”, thus urged the public to focus on preventives measures to avoid been infected.
