Lawyer for Teacher Trainees request them to go ahead and write the Licensure exams’ even before the Courts make a determination

Lawyer for trainee teachers, Elikpilm Agbemava on Monday 10th September, advised his clients to go ahead and sit for the Teachers Licensure Exams before the court decides on the issue.

The trainee teachers are in a battle with the National Teaching Council for introducing License Exams in the country.

The issue is pending before the court as the trainee teachers wants the court to put an injunction on the process.

National Teaching Council (NTC) in 2017 announced that teachers would now have to pass a special examination before being granted the license to teach.

The move, according to NTC, is to enforce discipline and eliminate non-performing teachers from the system, in pursuance of the Teachers Licensing Policy under the Education Act 778 (2008).

Speaking on Diamond fm about the legal action, the flag bearer-hopeful of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Agbemava who is filing the suit on behalf of the group, stated that the guidelines and procedures for the licensure examination for only newly-trained teachers, was discriminatory, arbitrary, an abuse of power and inconsistent with the 1992 Constitution and, therefore, need interpretation,

Meanwhile Dr Evelyn Owusu Oduro a member of NTC, explained that the candidates were expecting to write Essential Professional Skills paper to be followed by Literacy and Numeracy on Tuesday and Wednesday. She mentioned that despite the few challenges confronting NTC the Exams would surely come on. She explained further
