KWESI NYANTAKYI BANNED FOR LIFE BY FIFA

Former president of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi has been banned for life from all football related activities by FIFA. The ban covers administrative, sports or any other role that he may think about occupying.

Nyantakyi was found guilty of conflict of interest by the FIFA adjudicatory chamber on Tuesday after it communicated its decision after almost 150 days of investigations.

Kwesi Nyantakyi was captured in the investigative piece by Anas Aremeyaw Anas titled #Number12 in June this year after he was filmed taking monies purported to be coming from ‘investors’ into Ghana football.

He was initially banned 90 days which was extended for a further 45 days.

FIFA communicated its decision on Tuesday via its official website with the following message:

“The adjudicatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee has banned Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi, former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), for life from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level.”

“The adjudicatory chamber found Mr Nyantakyi guilty of having violated art. 19 (Conflicts of interest), art. 21 (Bribery and corruption) and art. 22 (Commission) of the FIFA Code of Ethics, 2012 edition. As a consequence, Mr Nyantakyi is banned for life from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level.”

“Additionally, a fine in the amount of CHF 500,000 has been imposed on Mr Nyantakyi.”

“The decision was notified to Mr Nyantakyi today, and the ban comes into force immediately.”
