“If Tolon develops, it’s you the delegates, if Tolon remains where it is; it’s you the delegates -Hajia Amama Sayibu

The former Northern Regional women’s Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hajia Amama Sayibu, has on Thursday February 20th 2020,filed her nomination forms with a strong appeal to the party’s constituency executives not to be lured by financial inducements in choosing a candidate to represent the party in their upcoming parliamentary primaries.

According to her, that will be the surest way to hold whoever that is elected accountable.

Hajia Amama was addressing a heralding crowd of delegates and supporters after filing her nomination to contest the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Tolon constituency, Wahab Suhuyini in the NPP’s 25th April parliamentary primaries.

 “We cannot complain in future if we allow ourselves to be bought by someone and that will affect our children’s education.  Already, we are not well represented in parliament yet we can’t complain because someone claimed to have bought our seat with money. Our government is in power and we have a DCE and an MP, yet Tolon is still behind in terms of development because we are not well positioned in this our government, she stated.

She added that delegates have a primary responsibility towards the development of the area by selecting a competent and right candidate who has an influence within the party and can lobby for development of the area.

“If Tolon develops it  is you the delegates, if Tolon remains where it is, it’s you the delegates. I am into this contest to teach you how to fish but not to give you fish, she mentioned.

Hajia Amama speaking however urged the delegates to fully endorse her candidature as she is committed to serving the good people of Tolon constituency, “I am here to collaborate with my brother, the Tolon Naa to develop this area. I am into this contest to support my people, to alleviate them from poverty. I know the difficulties of this area which I am committed to address when given the nod”, she stated.

She said, she is ready to use her lobbying skills to develop the area, saying she will lobby with the right institutions and agencies “to restore hope in the constituency. “I am the only woman among the five aspirants and you have tasted the men for so long. Give me your mandate and you will never regret, she noted.

Hajia Amama also indicated that supporting farmers and improving the lives of other women groups within the constituency would be her major priority when given the nod.

She has however pledged to unite the various factions within the NPP in the constituency to enable them retain the seat for NPP when selected as NPP PC for Tolon constituency.

Hajia Amama Sayibu served as Northern Regional Women Organizer for 8years and she is seeking to snatch the seat from Hon Wahab Suhuyini.

The incumbent MP for the area Wahab Suhuyini who is seeking re-election has been accused by residents of not doing enough to alleviate the sufferings of the electorates.

Before the filing, Hajia Amama Sayibu called on the Chief of Tolon, retired Major Abukari  Sulemana to officially inform him of her intention to contest the upcoming NPP primaries and seek for his blessings.

The chief in his statement still emphasized on the need for all the aspirants to go about their campaign devoid of insults, saying the contests should be seen as internal matter.

Five persons have returned their nomination forms to contest the Tolon primaries. They include the former Northern Regional women Organizer, Hajia Amama Sayibu, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, Mohammed Abdul Razack, Alhaji Jaagbo Baako, and the incumbent MP Alhaji Wahab Suhuyini.
