An aspiring NPP parliamentary candidate for Tolon constituency, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, has pledged to implement an educational fund to support the needy but brilliant students in the area when given the node to lead in the constituency.
Alhaji Habib who is a Deputy Managing Director at the Tema processing Zone, made these remarks after presenting his nomination forms to the constituency executives of the ruling new patriotic party (NPP) satisfying requirements to contest the parliamentary primaries of the party in the constituency.
He said empowering the youth will be his main priority, and that includes creating an educational fund to cater for the needy students in the constituency.
“You will see a lot of students in this constituency hanging around, they cannot go to school, and I have made a point that if I am elected as parliamentary candidate and subsequent Member of Parliament for this constituency, I will launch an educational fun. This is going to be an educational fund that will cater for all needs of students in this constituency”, he assured.
Speaking to the media after submitting his forms, Alhaji Habib was optimistic that he will be winning the internal elections by a landslide victory come April 25th.
He indicated that, about 378 polling station executives and 18 electoral area coordinators wittinessed the submission of his nomination forms at the party constituency office on Friday 31st January 2020. “Tolon has been our seat since 1992, and so I will work hard to retain it.”
He said the constituency is lacking behind in terms of development because, “we haven’t had good MPs. My main objective will be to lobby for development for this constituency when giving the mandate.”
Saying the incumbent MP despite his party in government had failed to improve and empower the lives of the people most especially the constituency executives of Tolon.
“The people will actually look at themselves as they have voted for an incumbent MP for 8years if they can point that there is something they can look at, that is why they can look at, if you look at the polling station executives and you will not be able to see what actually can attract another person to join NPP, and if your government is in power, there is need to be a lot of changes in your lives. People should be able to look at you and know that your party is in power and join you, but if you look at the polling station executives, day-in day-out, they are suffering” , he indicated.
Alhaji Habib said he has been supporting farmers in the constituency and therefore will put much effort into supporting them when given the nod so that they can increase their yield. He also pledged to unite the party in the constituency when given the mandate to lead the constituency.
The Deputy managing director of Team processing zone presented a banker’s draft of GHC 25,000.00 and filled nomination forms to the Tolon Constituency Executives at the constituency office of the NPP at Tolon, on Friday to satisfy requirements to contest in the parliamentary primaries of the party.
This will be the first time Alhaji Habib is contesting to lead the party in the Tolon constituency. In 2016, he represented the NPP at the Sagnarigu constituency but lost to the current MP Alhaji A.B.A FUSEINI.
The NPP has scheduled April 25, 2020 to elect parliamentary candidates for the 2020 general elections.
Several personalities including free zones Boss, Michael Okyere Baafi ,some party executives both regional and various constituencies and hundreds of NPP supporters in Tolon constituency were at the party offices to witness the filing of Alhaji Habib, who they tipped as the favorite candidate among the five aspirants.
The Deputy Director of Tema processing zons will face-off with the incumbent MP Hon Wahab Suhuyini Wumbei who was elected to parliament in 2012 and 2016, DAMAZ chariman Alhaji Jagbo , Hajia Amama, and Mr Zack.
