An aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Tolon Constituency, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu has promised to change the face of Katingdaa when given the mandate to lead as Member of Parliament in the constituency.
The NPP aspiring candidate made this known to Diamondfmonline.com saying Katingdaa served as a major point for all trade in the Tolon District.
He added Katingdaa position made it a hotspot for economic activity, as major activities in the district and other parts of the region went on in and around the area.
According to him, despite the market served as a major point of all trade in the District, and that it has not seen any major facelift for decades, therefore his decision to redevelop it.
The Deputy Director of Tema Processing Zone indicated that Katingdaa served as the stimulus of economic development in the district and the region and his term in office as MP of Tolon would invest in the Katingdaa to provide avenues for groups and individuals to obtain better living conditions through trading in the area.
“Katingdaa is an old market which is generating a lot of revenue for the district authorities because majority of traders across the Northern Region patronized Katingdaa during market day. And so, I don’t understand why it is still underdeveloped, and I have made a point that if I am elected as parliamentary candidate and subsequent Member of Parliament for this constituency, I will construct this market. I have links in this government, and I know where to go, to find development for this our market”, he assured.
He opined that the NPP government through the ministry of trade and industry over the last two years has embarked on exercise to reconstruct and re-engineer old markets across the country, but katingdaa wasn’t captured on the exercise.
“I don’t understand why Katingdaa wasn’t captured on this initiatives, “I will make sure they captured it when am given the mandate to lead this constituency”, he assured.
Katingdaa has existed for years, and was a major trading site during pre-independence era which continued to grow to its present size. It served as a major point for all trade in the Northern Region. Its position made it a hotspot for economic activity, as major activities in the Tolon went on in and around the area.
This led to the area quickly filling up with building for stores. Various trading houses brought their businesses close as it brought them closer to buyers most especially market day.
Alhaji Habib in an interaction with diamondfmonline.com at his private residency in Tamale, said Tolon District had the potential of growing more cash and food crops to feed the rest of the region and the country at large, and therefore he will lobby for the construction of major roads in the area to facilitate the carrying of foodstuff from the farming communities to marketing centres.
He mentioned that his outfit as aspiring parliamentary candidate for Tolon constituency has lobbied for the ongoing construction of one district one warehouse in the constituency, he added his effort has been able to put up a six unit class block at Yuggu a farming community in the Tolon District to enhance teaching and learning in the area.
He promised that when given the nod, more of such infrastructure would come into the constituency.
