“I am the only person within the constituency who can win the elections and still take care of my other colleagues” – Alhaji Habib Iddrisu

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the Northern Region on Wednesday 4th March 2020, begun vetting potential candidates for the parliamentary primaries in nine constituencies in the Northern Region.

Third Vice Chairman, Mr. Michael Omari Wadie  and Mr Sammi Awuku are among the members of the committee.  The rest are the Northern Regional chairman of NPP, Alhaji Mohammed Baantima Samba and the Regional Secretary, Alhaji Sibdow Alhassan.  The committee are to vet all 22 aspirants beginning on Wednesday 4th March 2020. 

Speaking to diamondfmonline.com after going through the vetting process, the Deputy Head in charge of the Tema processing zone, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu who is eyeing the Tolon Constituency seat, described the process as free and fair, saying the vetting process will enable the party to build consensus around the various candidates to ensure unity after the primaries.

He said developing and improving the lives of the people of Tolon Constituency will be his main priority, and that includes creating an educational fund to cater for the needy students in the constituency.

Alhaji  Habib however pledged to run a campaign devoid of insults and challenged his contenders to do same in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary primaries.

“This is an in-house competition and I have cautioned myself first and that of my campaign team that, these elections that we are contesting is going to be issues based campaign. It is going to be a campaign where we are going to tell the delegates what we can do for the constituency. For my contenders, they have already declared that I am the one who is going to lead the party in Tolon Constituency”, he sated

“I have pledged together with my team to be as decorous as required. I have pledged not to use any intemperate or indecent language on any person. I am going to run a campaign that will touch the hearts of the delegates. I have pledged to run a campaign that will unite the party. Not ever thing that you will attack me and I will respond. No, my responds will be on 25th April when delegates will come to endorse me.  So that you will know that hate never wins”,

The Deputy Head in charge of the Tema processing zone also indicated he is the only candidate that can win the upcoming parliamentary elections and still take care of his contenders.

“I am the only person within the constituency you can see that, I can win the elections and still take care of my other colleagues so that we will have a very peaceful election and that is why God has done it for us because I am in the No. 5 position on the ballot paper” , he indicated.

Alhaji Habib insisted that he is a registered voter at the Tolon Constituency, saying he has voted three consecutive elections in the constituency ranging from 2004 to the 2012 general elections. He explained that it is only in the 2016 general elections he voted out of the Tolon Constituency.

The first batch of parliamentary aspirants who were vetted today included the Defence Minister,  Dominic Nitiwul who is going unopposed, MP for Savelugu  Mohammed Somed Gunu,  Habib Iddrisu,  Wahab Suhuyini Wumbei,  Jaagbo Baako,  Mohammed Zakaria,  Amama Sayibu, Thomas D. Ogaja of Wulensi,  Abdulai Haruna, Hardy Tuferu and  Kamaldeen Abdulai.

Meanwhile the Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Mohammed Baantima Samba has warned that aspirants who misconduct themselves without recourse to the rules of engagement stand the risk of being disqualified from partaking in the primaries.

“There shall be no busing of supporters to the venue of the vetting and that only the APCs and their drivers will be allowed entry to the venue. The party in the region is wide awake and would not spare any candidate who flouts the rules of engagement.”

The process is scheduled to end on Thursday 05th March 2020.
