I am not a signatory to purported list of ‘John Mahama for 2020 Presidency’,” – Yunyoo MP

Yonyoo constituency Member of Parliament, Joseph Naabu who is courting controversies for signing a parliamentary list that endorses John Mahama candidature for 2020, has denied such assertions.

He says he was never misled to indorse the former President who lost power in 2016 to be maintained as NDC flagbearer for the 2020 presidential elections as been, widely circulated in media space.

The Yonyoo legislator, who happens to be brother of former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Daniel Bugri Naabu, is a known critique of John Mahama and it was therefore surprising that he is being counted some 90 plus NDC MPs including Builsa MP, Clement Apak who are throwing their support behind former President, but not any of the other aspirants for Presidency.

But commenting on the development, on Diamond fm power drive, the MP stated that he never siged any purported document that indorses Mr. Mahama. Rather, Mr Naabu said it was the MP for Yapie-Kusawgu and a few others who were persuading him to sign unto the list, but he declined and in contrast to reports on social media.

The Yonyoo MP maintained that he was throwing his weight behind the second deputy speaker of parliament, Alban Sumani Bagbin who is positioning himself to lead the main opposition, the NDC in the 2020 general elections.

‘’ I was in my office at Parliament house when John Jinapor, Alhaji Tanko and others came to me. They requested that I sign the document, but I declined, because everybody knows that I am in support of the deputy speaker of parliament, so it is never true that I indorsed former president John MAHAMA,’’ the Yonyoo MP stated.

Joseph Naabu also disagreed with the assertion that he is against John Mahama because he failed to give him ministerial post during his reign.

’I am supporting the deputy speaker of parliament because of his ideas on how to better manage the party. I have heard people say am not with former president because he failed to give ministerial position. I disagree, I will support former president MAHAMA, if he emerges victorious in the primaries, but certainly I am campaigning for the deputy speaker of parliament’’
