Hours of Rain results in Flooding in Tamale and other parts of the country.

Hours of torrent rains on Tuesday has left some suburbs of the Tamale metropolis and parts of the Sanarigu municipal flooded.

The downpour which started around 8 in the morning, resulted in communities such as Gumani, Tunayili and Koblimagu which experiences similar flooding of the past, going through same ordeal.

Next to Gariba lodge, which is a mango groove and a space that accommodate some car rentals, shops and artisans were all submerged with the gushing waters flowing into the big drainage that swept a 59 years old Hajia Fati Bapuni, together with her SUV away in 2017.

At Gumani which is other side, Tuesday morning’s rain left some affected residents worried as they were seen scooping water from their rooms while others standing helpless as their electronics and other properties were soaked in floods.

Some community members, who declined to speak to Diamond News on tape, however expressed worries that the issue of flooding in Gumani has become perennial and city authorities should stop paying lip services to saving the situation.

Afa Iddi, a resident want drainage facilities and better access roads to redirect the cause of the flooding. According to him, politicians have failed them in terms of providing real infrastructural development and with the coming rains they could get tough for communities that are flood prone.

There was flooding at the national capital to, Accra too where two person were said to have died in an overnight rains on Monday.

The Floodwaters destroyed several properties and makeshift structures on major roads.

The army joined staff from the National Disaster Management Organisation on rescue mission in places where residents were marooned by floodwaters.

The Meteorological Service has forecasted more heavy rains in the coming weeks and has accordingly cautioned citizens and farmers to hid advice and go about their activities safely.
