GUSA GAMES UNDERWAY IN TAMALE

The Ghana University Sports Association bi-annual games are underway at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale as the host university. This is the 25th edition of the games and it marks the 50th anniversary of the games since it started and hosting rights are on rotational basis. The games started on 6th January and will end on 20th January, 2018.

Day four (4) of the Games saw the commencement of the athletics completion. Hosts UDS won gold in the 200m men final whilst the University of Cape Coast (UCC) won the women finals. UDS again won both gold and silver in the Shot Put men competition. The last event for the day was the Javelin women competition which did not end because it started late. The track and field events continue on Friday 12th January, 2018.

In the football competition, hosts UDS beat the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) by 11-1 in the women category whilst UCC women beat the University of Education, Wineaba (UEW) 2-1. Captain of the Black Maidens, Abdulai Mukarama scored 8goals in the match for UDS. Matches for the women football continuous on Friday.

In the football men competition, hosts UDS lost 2-3 on penalties against UCC after playing out a 1-1 draw in regulation time. The UEW won on penalties against the University for Professional Studies (UPSA) after a 1-1 draw. KNUST defeated the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) 3-1. Matches in the men’s football continuous on Wednesday January 10th, 2018.
