GRA to prosecute tax evaders

The Ghana revenue authority will soon begin the arrest and prosecution of individuals and companies found to have evaded tax.

Assistant Commissioner in charge of debt management, compliance and enforcement at the Ghana Revenue Authority Dr. Dela Heloo said the GRA will use its prosecutorial powers to sanction tax evading companies and individuals.

He said the move is to improve the country’s tax collection regime thereby increasing revenue to meet the developments needs of the country.

The Taxman said they would be doing this by intensifying tax compliance and plugging current revenue leakages.

Explaining the measures put in place to check revenue leakages to Diamond news, Dr. Dela Heloo indicated that, tax evaders will be prosecuted in accordance with the laws of Ghana to save as a deterrent to others.

Dr. Dela Heloo also cautioned the public to demand identification from every GRA officials who might come at random for tax inspection to avoid scammers
