GRA organizes sensitization forum in Tamale for stakeholders on the voluntary compliance in revenue mobilization

The Ghana Revenue Authority has held a sensitization forum in Tamale for stakeholders on the voluntary compliance in revenue mobilization.

The forum was to educate stakeholders on tax laws, processes and procedures which would lead to a sense of responsibility in honoring their tax obligation to the state for sustainable national development.

An Assistant Commissioner at the Customs division of the GRA, Paul Kwesi Ahiakpor revealed that, revenue mobilization at the moment is facing a mismatch with the growing demands for better social services and development projects, by the citizenry.

He said taxation has been identified as an important instrument that all countries that want to develop relay heavily on by way of mobilizing revenue for development. He added that the Ghana Revenue Authority will continue to educate the citizenry on the need to honor their tax obligations.

Assistant Commissioner of Customs, Paul Ahiakpor said Ghana can no longer continue to rely on aid, grants and donor supports to finance her developmental agenda and thereby urged stakeholders to contribute their quota by honoring their tax obligations for development.

Head of the medium tax office in Tamale, Kwame Adu Kwakye in a presentation schooled stakeholders on how to calculate the NHIS, GetFund and the VAT levies to avoid sanctions from the GRA.

He said the GRA will prosecute tax evaders and award the necessary penalties to persons and organizations found withholding taxes or delay in filing their tax returns in due time.

The forum was used to encourage Individuals and various organizations to register for the Taxpayer Identification Number TIN to enable them transacts business with identifiable institutions with ease.
