Ghanaian Journalists outraged by the murder of their colleague, Ahmed Hussein-Sualah, a Member of the Tiger Eye PI team

Ghanaian Journalists have expressed deep sorrow over the gruesome murder of Ahmed Hussein-Sualah, a Member of the Tiger Eye PI team, describing it as barbaric.

They also called on the security agencies to marshal their forces to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book. Mr Ahmed Hussein-Sualah, a Member of the Tiger Eye PI team was killed by unknown assailants on Wednesday.

The late Journalist was reported to have played a key role in the investigative piece of Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Number 12 on football corruption and was reportedly shot three times, twice on the chest and another on the neck at Madina, a suburb of Accra.

the umbrella organisation of Journalists, the GJA The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the National Media Commission have called for a thorough and proper investigation into the shooting and killing of Ahmed Hussein Suale, a member of the Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ TigerEye PI Investigative Team.

The President of the GJA, Roland Affail Monney, at a news conference, called on the Police Service to, as a matter of priority and urgency, launch a full-scale investigation into the killing of Ahmed and ensure the killers face the full rigours of the law.

The association also called on the President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, to take personal interest in seeing to the bottom of the matter until justice is served and Members of Parliament to take the necessary actions to instil a sense of safety in the media and among the populace.

This was not the first-time journalists had been murdered in cold blood in recent memory, mentioning the murder of the former Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Branch of the GJA, Samuel Ennin, who was similarly shot and killed in February 2007.

Others were King George Abanga, the Peace FM Correspondent at Goaso on September 16, 2016 and Broadcast Journalist Portia Ama Agyeiwaa of a local radio station in Bekwai, who was stabbed to death in April 2018.

Ghanaian Journalists in recent times have witnessed physical violent attacks from the security agencies and political activists thereby manifesting the deteriorating conditions of safety of journalists in a country that has had a positive press freedom track record over the years. Media Foundation for West Africa report indicated that 17 journalists were attacked last year during their line of duty and warned that the country’s press freedom ratings could drop if the authorities and stakeholders failed to end the rampant attacks on Journalists.
