The Black Maidens of Ghana have capped a fine group phase by winning all their matches at the ongoing FIFA under 17 World Cup in Uruguay. The team defeated their near rivals New Zealand 2-0 on Tuesday to finish 9points out of 9.
Captain Mukarama Abdulai scored both goals in the 61st and 89th minutes after a goalless first half.
The team could have scored more if not for missed opportunities from the likes of Grace Animah, Milot Pokuaa and substitute Fuseina Mumuni.
The other group game between host Uruguay and Finland ended 1-1 as both were already out before the last round of matches after losing their respective first two group matches.
Ghana will now face Mexico on Sunday in the second quarter final of the tournament.
Grace Animah pipped Mukarama Abdulai to the player of the match this time after a fine display. Mukarama had won the accolade for the last two matches Ghana played.
