GES’s new school uniforms order is a Nonstarter says Osofo Apullah

Chief of Nyankpala Zongo, OSOFO PATRICK APULLAH, has expressed worry over the decision by the Ghana Education Service to introduce new school uniform for Junior High School (JHS) students in the country.

The Director-General of the GES, Prof Kwasi Opoku Amankwa during a media engagement last week, announced the introduction of new school uniform for JHS students, stating that Students are expected to start wearing the new school uniform from next academic year, 2019 – 2020.

However the chief of Nyankpala Zongo, commenting on the development at his private residency in Nyankpala, described the decision by the GES as unnecessary.

Osofo Apulla said the introduction of new school uniforms would add more burdens to parents who are already struggling to provide other needs for their wards.

’The introduction of new school uniform will add burden to parents. The school uniform already in use should still be allowed. Already you [government] said free education and were to provide uniforms freely.

So it is nonstarter when they [government] bring that school uniform for children, the Catholics  schools they have their uniform, the Presbyterian schools have their uniform, the Muslims schools have their uniform and accepted by the people, so what uniform is government going to introduce, is it going to provide the uniform free?’’ Osofo Apullah asked.
