Five suspect in kpantiga disturbances remanded into prison custody

The Tamale District court presided over by His Lordship Amadu Yussif has remanded five accused persons into prison custody in connection with the renewed conflict that broke out at Kpatinga in the Gushegu municipality of the Northern region.

The accused persons are Iddrisu Azindo 57 years, Fatawu Kpanalana 35, Hashim Mumanjadi 32, Alidu Alhassan, 27, and will reappear in court on 11th February, 2020.

The fifth suspects, Mohammed Dokurugu, age 55 also on remind will reappear on February 6th 2020.

They have been charged with Conspiracy, Causing damage, Causing harm, and Possession of fire arm in a distracted area.

At least one person was confirmed dead in the renewed communal violence in the area.

The deceased, Alhassan Abass, 25, is reported to have been hit by a spray bullet during the exchange of fire between some irate youth group and security on the ground whiles one person has been injured.

The renewed clashes have resulted in several houses being set ablaze.

Since the communal violence between the supporters of the kpantigna chief and the regent of the area on Friday January 25th, women and children have fled the kpatinga community to seek refuge.

The clashes have left many residents in the community homeless as their houses and properties have been burnt into ashes.

Several farm products include thousands of tubers of yam, maze and other product burnt to ashes.

Meanwhile, the Northern regional crime officer Supt Otuo Acheampong after the court proceedings told Diamondfmonline.com, the regional police command has been beefed up security present in the area to protect lives and properties.

He added that police had intensified investigations within the troublesome kpantiga and its environs to enable them prosecute all persons involved.
