The Ghana National Fire Service recorded 320 fire incidents across the northern region in the year 2018, which reflects a reduction in figures from the previous 370 incidents in 2017.
The command is attributing the reduction of fire incidents in 2018 to intensified education and public sensitization on best practices in handling and controlling fires at the markets, places of work and in the home.
The Northern regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service Adam Iddrisu Gbanzaba in an interview with Diamond News revealed that naked fire, electric and LPG are the major causes of fire due to the negligence and improper methods of handling these fire.
He urged that public to put off electric gargets, consistently check the pipes of the LPG and separate the cylinder from the burner and also ensure proper housekeeping to avoid preventable fire outbreaks.
Adam Iddrisu Gbanzaba also urged the public to quickly place a call to the National Fire service to ensure safe firefighting and rescuing services and protection of lives and properties.
He again admonished the public to respect the sound of the sirens and give way for the fire fighters to respond to fire and other rescue needs.
