Electoral Commission accused of taking unilateral decisions on new voters register for 2020 when that had not been agreed to at IPAC

National chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Barnard Mornah has chastised the Electoral commission and described the commissioners as smugglers for their decision to announce compilation of a new voters register before the 2020 election.

The EC had announced a decision to compile a new voter’s register ahead of the 2020 general election which they say was a decision taken at an IPAC meeting held on Wednesday March 27.

Barnard Mornah sharing his views on the issue on Diamond Fm, accused the electoral commission of smuggling the issue of the new register into their press release to the public since the IPAC meeting did not discuss that.

He said a compilation of a new voter’s register is borne out of a national population and housing census which is expected to come off in 2020 and that would give estimates of eligible voters in Ghana.

The National Chairman of the People’s National Convention, Bernard Mornah also slammed the electoral commission for the decision to center the limited voter registration exercise at the district electoral offices.

He suggested that the exercise should be decentralized to allow every group of people including the aged and poor to benefit.

Moanah said the EC’s decision was a deliberate attempt to deny some Ghanaians the opportunity to register and would subsequently be disenfranchised during the 2020 general elections.
