The Headmaster of the Northern School of Business (Nobisco) in the Sanarigu Municipality, Alhassan Issah Dokurugu, has lauded government and Zoomlion initiative that would see Senior High schools across the country being disinfected.
According to him, the disinfection and disinfestations exercise being carried out in all secondary school, significantly, would address a major challenge of bedbugs’ infestation which compromises the students’ quality of health as well as their academic performance.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a disinfection exercise undertaking by Zoomlion on the Northern School of Business NOBISCO Campus, the Headmaster, Issah Dokurugu stated that, the bloodsucking insects had had a negative toll on students activities from the dormitories to all the way to the classroom, over the years, and an initiative to bringing such under control was laudable.
The Government of Ghana through the Education Ministry entered into a partnership with waste management company, Zoomlion to fumigate all public and private Senior High Schools across the country. The exercise is taking place at a time that school sessions from basic to Tertiary have been put on hold, since March 2020, due to the corona virus pandemic.
The Northern Zonal Manager of Zoomlion, Peter Dawuni explained that the exercise will be carried out simultaneously in all 86 senior high schools in the Northern, Savanna and North East regions.
Mr. Dawuni added that the disinfection involves spraying the dormitories and all student mattresses, the classroom blocks, students’ practical laboratories, dining halls, mosque and chapel and administration blocks.
For his part, Public Relations officer at the Northern Regional directorate of the Ghana Education Service, Akanzoni Donald, said although the GES is unaware when school would re-opened, it is hoped that the environment for teaching and learning, would become safer after the disinfection exercise.
