The Director and the Founder of the Savannah Centre for Contemporary Art (SCCA), Ibrahim Mohammed Mahama, has appealed to government to develop and enduring policy that would help improve the arts sector.
He said it is important for government to develop a policy that would sustain public-private partnership in the arts and culture sector to attract more investment.
Mr Mahama said this during the opening ceremony of the maiden arts exhibition gallery, organised by SCCA in Tamale.
The exhibition, which started on 15th March and would continue till 15th August, is to promote Ghanaian arts locally and internationally.
It was also to highlight the significant work done by practitioners in the pre and post independence era which has inspired a generation of artists and architects in the country.
Mr Mahama urged stakeholders in the arts sector to build the capacity of the youth by training them in the arts industry.
An architect, Winston Kofi Galle Dawson, in an interview with the GNA, expressed concern about how the arts industry was performing poorly in the country.
He said the country does not have any sustainable tourism pivot in our local culture and creative arts sector to boost national development.
Mr Dawson called on government to continue in its efforts in helping to create awareness on the importance of tourism, culture and the arts in the society.
