DIAMOND FM’S DAMBA FESTIVAL MATCHES SUCCESSFUL

 

Two football matches organized by Diamond FM to climax this year’s Damba Festival on Saturday December 9th, 2017 at the Zogbeli JHS park were successful. The matches saw communicators of both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) square off in the first match of the day. Whilst the second game saw a clash between Dagombas and Moshies.

At the end of an entertaining encounter, the NDC won the game by 3-1. After a bright start to the game, the NDC made their early dominance pay as they scored the first goal of the game through the boot of Issah Ahmed. The NPP however crawled back into the game with a delightful equalizer from the boot of Achirison Abdul Razak. This saw the game end 1-1 at half time.

The second half was much more entertaining as the first half had been. Issah Ahmed grabbed his brace for the NDC to make it 2-1 before a last minute own goal by Shamsudeen Polo ensuring that the NDC run away 3-1 winners on the day, perhaps retaliating for the 2016 election results.

The second match of the day was between Dagombas and Moshies who are traditional playmates. The match as expected produced all the trills and excitement from the touches of the two sides. A first half goal from Musah Alhassan ensured that the Dagombas ended that half 1-0.

In the second half, the two sides rung in the changes which proved effective because the supporters were delighted with what they were seeing from the teams. However, the Dagombas were the side to score from the boot of Mohammed Alidu Napari also known as CK in the dieing minutes of the half.

In the end, the Dagombas proved supreme as they won the match 2-0 much to the happiness of the crowd.

At the short presentation ceremony, Alhaji Baba Jamoni thanked the youth for turning up for the match and commended the manner in which the various teams and their players comported themselves. On behalf of the management and staff, Alhaji Baba Jamoni extended warm appreciation and cordiality to all present at the ceremony.

The Regional Communications Director of the NDC Mr. Abdul Mumin Alhassan was glad that his team won the match and indicated that anytime there is such a competition, his side will triumph over their counterparts.

For his part, a representative of the Regional Communications Director of the NPP  Mr. Abdulai A. Yussif Sisqo lamented his side’s loss to their bitter rivals but blamed it on players he described as ‘workers’ who don’t have time to train.

The Dagomba ‘Yelvuhi Naa’, Papa Sango who led them in the game said it was impossible for ‘mad’ people to beat ‘sane’ people. He nonetheless acknowledged the fighting spirit of the Moshie during the game and thanked Diamond FM for putting together such an initiative and hoped that it should be an annual affair.

The Northern Regional Juvenile Coach Alhassan Dawuo joined Alhaji Baba Jamoni to present the trophy to the NDC for their victory and five cans of Chocco-Malt. This was taken for them by their Regional Deputy Chairman Farouk Kanawu. For their consolation prize, the NPP also took five crates of Chocco-Malt.

The captain of the Dagomba team Yelvuhi Naa took their prize which was a trophy and a football together with four crates of Chocco-Malt.

The Moshie team took four crates of Malt as their consolation prize.

Certificates of participation were given to all the teams.
