Dagbon Overlord elected as President of the Northern regional house of chiefs

Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Ya-Na Abukari II has been elected as the President of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs.

As a President of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, Ndan Ya-Na will serve a term of four years.

The Ya-Na was elected at a ceremony in Tamale to reconstitute the Northern Regional House of Chiefs which became necessary following the separation of the Savanna and Northeast Regional House of Chiefs.

In his acceptance speech, the Ya-Na described the position as an enormous task and called for the support of all members of the house to enable him carry out his duties as the President of the House.

Ndan Ya-Na, according to a representative of the Electoral Commission was the only person who filed to contest the position.

The house, however could not elect a Vice President over what was described as “technical challenges”.

The new Northern Regional House of Chiefs also elected five other members as representatives of the house at the National House of Chiefs.

The members are the Sagnar-Naa Ambassador Yakubu Abdullai, Kumbun-Naa Alhaji Abu Iddrisu, Sunson-Naa Shani Hamidu II, Nakpale-Bore Gariba Yankosor II, and Bakpaba-Naa Adam Naatogmah.

The house also constituted six committees to help in the day-to-day running of the house.

Currently, the Northern Regional House of Chiefs is made up of 32 members, out of which, 23 are from the Dagbon area council and 9 from the Nanung traditional area.
