canoe operators on Nawuni river appeal for jackects

Canoe operators at Nawuni, have lamented that lack of life jackets for passengers on the Volta Lake is exposing their livelihoods and passenger safety to danger.

According to canoe operators, lives of passengers were seriously at risk, due to the unavailability of the life jackets, and that rescue operations might be fruitless if nothing is done to salvage the situation.

They say even though the Kumbungu district assembly provided five live jackets these were inadequate.

We caught up with two of the operators’ enroute to Singa, an overseas community, who expressed their grievances to our news team.

Canoe serves as a thriving transport business at Nawuni, because of the unavailability of a bridge over River Nawuni, which is one of the tributaries of the Volta Lake.
