Buffer Stock has enough to feed mouths even as Free SHS enters its second Year – CEO assures

Chief Executive Officer of the National Buffer Stock Company, Hanan Abdul Wahab has given the assurance that his outfit has enough supply of food that would meet demands even as the government’s Free SHS policy enters its second year of implementation.

According to him, his office is awaiting data from public senior high schools in order to determine the quantity of food to be supplied to them through accredited suppliers.

Government in 2017 contracted the National Buffer Stock Company to supply food to SHS schools across the country to address the perennial shortages of food during the term. Buffer stock company also has the mandate to ensure that, foods grown in Ghana are sold to state institutions; it also manages government’s emergency food security implementation.

Speaking to Diamond news in an exclusive interview, Hanan Abdul Wahab said buffer stock company would not wait for payments from government before supplying food to the schools describing this as a government to government contract that guarantees continuous supply.

Hanan Abdul Wahab also indicated that, Management of the National Buffer stock would provide warehouses across the country which would aid the country in attaining food security reserve status.

He revealed that, the company would also ensure the stability of grain supply as well as pricing by mopping up the excess food supply and release them to the market when the demand arises.
