Bombers need early preparation for 2018 Commonwealth Games – Deputy coach

The deputy coach of the Black Bombers, Lartekwei Lartey, is skeptical about the chances of the national amateur boxing team, the Black Bombers, in the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Despite admitting that some Bombers are now training on their own, he said preparations for the team in respect of the Games was not up to the required standard.

He noted that the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) was yet to vet and approve funds for residential and non-residential training.

Though boxers for the Games are yet to be selected through a nationwide selection process, he identified some notable talents who are currently in the team, but are lacking the requisite training.

He disclosed that over 30 amateur boxers will engage in a fierce individual national selection championship on December 6 to select the pugilists for the Games.

He seized the opportunity to appeal for a more serious approach towards the Games.
