Black Satellites sweep aside Tanzania in AFCON U-20 opener

A brace from striker Percious Boah, a magical volley by Abdul Fatawu Issahaku of Steadfast FC and a Joselpho Barnes’ second half strike gave Ghana an emphatic 4-0 win against Tanzania in their Group C opener at the Stade de Noadhibou on Tuesday in the ongoing African Under 20 Championships.

Ghana led 2-0 at half time courtesy a Percious Boah free kick inside three minutes and Abdul Fatawu’s strike from the halfway line. Percious Boah scored again in the second half to grab a brace as Ghana cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win.

Tanzania’s fight for a goal was dealt a blow in the 71st minute when Boah completed his brace with another sensational strike. The Dreams FC man picked up a cross from Sulemana Mohamed before outwitting his marker to fire a left foot belter past the Tanzanian keeper.

The East Africans attempted to respond but Ghana goalkeeper Danladi Ibrahim was on hand to stop them.

With two minutes left on the clock, the Black Satellites put the game beyond the reach of Tanzania. Joselpho Barnes sealed victory for Ghana with a calm finish past the keeper after Mathew Anim Cudjoe’s defence splitting pass cited his brilliant run into the box.

At the end of the match, Coach Abdul Karim Zito expressed delight at his team’s win. Speaking at the Post match press conference, Coach Zito stated that he is elated to win his opening match of the competition.

The Coach further intimated that the win will boost the confidence of his players ahead of the next game.

Some football fans in Ghana believe that Ghana are known to be slow starters in competitions so it was good that this time around it has changed.

The Black Satellites traveled to the tournament last Sunday with management committee members Dr Randy Abbey and Alhaj Abu Hassan Rhyzo, NRFA chairman leading the team.

The second group game against Morocco is scheduled to kick off at 7:00pm on Friday, February 19. The Moroccans also won their opening game by a lone goal against The Gambia.
