BLACK QUEENS THROUGH TO WAFU ZONE B SEMIS

It was a weekend of double glory for women football in Ghana as both the national Under 17 team, also known as the Black Maidens and their senior counterparts, the Black Queens all won important games.

Elsewhere in Ivory Coast, Ghana’s Black Queens booked a place in the semi-finals of the WAFU Zone B women’s tournament after beating Burkina Faso 4-1 in their final Group A game on Sunday.

Goals from captain Portia Boakye (21st, 70th), Grace Asantewaa (39th) and Priscilla Okyere (55th), handed the Queens the victory they needed to join Cote d’Ivoire from Group A to the semi-finals of the competition being staged in Abidjan.

Cote d’Ivoire also beat Niger 6-0 to top the group on seven points while Ghana had six points to place second.

Portia Boakye also won the Woman of the match award.

The Black Queens of Ghana will now face Group A winners, Nigeria in the semi-finals on Thursday.
