BLACK MAIDENS WHIP HOST URUGUAY IN TOURNAMENT OPENER

The female national under 17 team, the Black Maidens outclassed host Uruguay in their group A opener at the FIFA under 17 women’s world cup in Uruguay beating them 5-0 on Tuesday night.

Ghana captain and hat-trick heroin Mukarama Abdulai was in devastating form after she set up Fuseina Mumuni to open Ghana’s account at the tournament with a beautiful goal on 20minutes. Five minutes later Mukarama herself opened her tournament account after she headed home Ghana’s second goal in the 25th minute.

Moments later scorer of the first goal could no longer continue and was replaced by Milot Pokua.

Ghana went into the break 2-0 up.

In the second half, the maidens continued from where they left off but resolute defending from the host denied them a goal until the 66th minute when substitute Milot Pokua took a beautiful solo run to slot home Ghana’s third goal of the match.

Mukarama Abdulai then added a brace on 77minutes and 90minutes to seal her hat-trick and finish Ghana’s rout of the host at their back yard.

The win takes Ghana top of the table even though with the same points build up as New Zealand who also won their opener against Finland.

Mukarama Abdulai was adjudged the best player of the match.

For Uruguay they must get back to the drawing board and see if they can make amends in the next match against New Zealand on Friday, 16th November, 2018, a day Ghana will also face Finland in the same group A second matches. Ghana’s game against Finland will be at 7:00pm. Ghana then concludes the group phase with a game against New Zealand on Tuesday 20th November, 2018.

Uruguay’s biggest achievement in international women’s football to date came at the 2012 U-17 South American Championships. The Uruguayans finished runners-up at the tournament and qualified for the World Cup in the age group in Azerbaijan later that year, where they failed to progress beyond the group phase. They lost by the same score line against Ghana in that tournament with Ghana continuing to finish as the third placed team which remains Aftrica’s best ever at the tournament.

Current Nordsjælland  assistant coach Mashud Didi Dramani lead the team in 2012 whilst current coach Evans Adotey was his assistant. Current assistant Baba Nuhu Mallam was part of the technical team.
