Black Cranes present medals to sponsors

Members of the national weightlifting team, Black Cranes, paid a courtesy visit to De United Foods Industries Ltd (DUFIL), the brand owners of Indomie, to showcase medals that the team won from two separate tournaments.

Indomie has been a major supporter of weightlifting in Ghana, sponsoring both the activities of the Black Cranes as well as grooming of young weightlifters.

At the Commonwealth Championship held in Gold Coast, Australia, Richmond Osarfo and David Akwei picked up silver and bronze medals in the 94kg and 63kg respectively, while in the African Championship held in Kampala, Uganda, Christian Amoah picked up gold, silver and bronze in the 85kg category while Richmond Osarfo again won silver in the 94kg division.

Following a successful performance of the team in the course of the year, the President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF), Mr Ben Nunoo Mensah, led them to visit and thank the management of DUFIL for their consistent support for the sport in Ghana. Mr Nunoo Mensah, who also doubles as the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, said the financial and non-financial support that the Black Cranes received from Indomie, contributed immensely to their success at the various competitions.

He said the GWF would continue to work hard to groom talents in order to win more medals for the nation.

The General Manager of DUFIL, Mahesh Shah praised the Black Cranes for their consistency in winning medals. “Last year, you were here to present us with medals and you are here again to do the same… you are our best national team, I must say, and I wish you well in your future endeavours,” he said and added that the weightlifters deserved special and more recognition than they currently enjoy and pledged Indomie’s continuous support for the sport in Ghana.
