Tilaa, a Non-governmental Organization (NGO) in the Northern Region, over the weekend presented 70 bags of fertilizer to selected women farmers from four communities in the Mion District of the Northern Region.
The beneficiary’ communities are Titag, Nagbali, Salankpang and Gunsi. The fertilizers were presented to the assembly members of the beneficiary communities for onward distribution to the women.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tilaa Company, Sadik Ibn Abdulai, indicated that the support was to help the women farmers in the Mion District have access to farming inputs for the new planting season.
He mentioned that the company since 2015 has been working with over 500 women out-growers in the Mion District, with the mission to eradicate poverty among their lot.
Sadik Abdulai said the major highlight of this intervention by the Tilaa company, was that the farmers were also trained in integrated bee-keeping, land adaptation, among others to help mitigate the cutting down of trees, and burning of bush during the dry season.
“We are supporting them so that they will do away with cutting down trees and other activities that affect the environment.”
The beneficiary farmers were elated by this gesture, saying the support has been timely since some of them were struggling to buy fertilizer for their farming activities.
