The Andani royal family in the Dagomba Traditional Kingdom in the
Northern Region has finally reached an amicable resolution to perform
the funeral rites of the late Ya Na Yakubu Abdulai Andani II.
This turn of event brings finality to the
tussle within the family as to whether or not they will perform the
royal funeral of the late Dagbon Overlord.
The elders of the family, led by Vo Na
Alhaji M. B. Bawah, Lamashe Na, Sagnari Na, Mr Ibrahim Mahama, a lawyer,
together with other high-profile chiefs from the Andani gate, held a
crunch meeting on Sunday, 23 December 2018 in Yendi with the Kampakuya
Na Yakubu Abdulai Andani, who had earlier threatened to withdraw from
the peace process and stall the performance of the funeral of the late
Ya Na.
The Vo Na, who spoke to the media after the
meeting, revealed that the Kampakuya Na has now decided to go along with
the family to allow peace to prevail.
The Vo Na added that the Kampakuya Na has
endorsed the performance of his father’s funeral as contained in the
final roadmap agreed by both Abudu and Andani royal families.
“The Kampakuya Na, Yakubu Abdulai Andani
reassured us that the funeral of the late Na Yakubu will surely come off
because he is also seeking to perform his father’s funeral,” the Vo Na
explained.
He emphasised that the Kampakuya Na told the
family leaders that: “He is not against the performance of his father’s
funeral” as being alleged.
The Kampakuya Na and his supporters had
earlier alleged that they have been sidelined in the peace process by
the Committee of Eminent Chiefs and further cited violations of the
customs and traditions of the people of Dagbon.
The Otumfuo-led Committee announced earlier
this month that both Abudu and Andani royal families in Dagbon should
perform the funeral rites of their respective late Overlords, Ya Na
Mahamadu Abdulai IV and Ya Na Yakubu Andani II.
The Abudu royal family commenced funeral
activities in honour of the late Ya Na Mahamadu Abdulai IV on Friday, 14
December and the process is expected to be completed on 28 December
2018.
The funeral of the late Ya Na Abdulai Yakubu
Andani II of the Andani royal gate will also be held afterwards from 4 –
18 January 2019.
